You think you have enemies?
Today I think of "enemies" through the years who have in some way destroyed or attempted to destroy my home, health, heart, happiness, and tried to take all hope.
I read Deuteronomy 30 this morning for my daily morning read.
Verse 7 - And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them, that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
When we read verses like that it is easy to think, "God is gonna get "em" but I remember clearly the words of Jesus and what those words say about enemies.
Luke 6:27 - But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Luke 6:35 - But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Our reward will be great for loving them, lending to them, being kind to unthankful people and hoping for nothing in return.
Well, alrighty then.
And think of how Jesus treated His enemies. He didn't wish evil upon them, for "karma" to get them eventually. He asked God to forgive them that hung Him on the cross.
And enemies? Are these people really enemies who do us wrong? I don't know about you but thank God, I have never been hung on a cross.
As I thought these things, It seems I heard God speak to me.
"You think you have enemies? They took more from ME than anyone has ever taken from you. And, I GAVE more. They thought they took my life, but in doing so they helped complete the plan for me to GIVE a way for even them to have eternal life. I am THE WAY.
I gave my life for ALL, even my enemies. I have given YOU more than any friend, family, or foe has ever taken from YOU. I have given you the opportunity to have eternal life in a place where there will be nothing, but PEACE forever and ever."
If you have a person in your life whom you think of as an enemy, forgive them, love them, don't wish evil upon them. Your reward will be great.
In showing kindness, you may even point them to the way of eternal life through Christ.
Jesus gave His enemies much more than they took from Him.
Dear Lord,
Thank you.
Help me to be more like you.
Amen
